FYI

Can Rick Warren Change the World?

Fox News is doing a special one hour program on Rick Warren this Sunday night. Here's the information from the press release...
Sun., August 20 at 8 p.m. ET Hosted by David Asman
He’s an evangelical superstar. His runaway best seller has transformed lives. But can Rick Warren’s message change hell-on-Earth or has he bitten off more than he can chew?
This weekend, join host David Asman for a FOX News exclusive: “Purpose Driven Life: Can Rick Warren Change the World?”
We’ll show you how Pastor Warren became one of the most influential religious leaders in America and built one of the largest evangelical churches in the nation.
We’ll explore how he’s transformed the lives of his readers by telling them to follow the plan God had for them.
And, we’ll examine how Warren’s wife convinced him to acknowledge that God had an even bigger plan for him: Can “A Purpose Driven Life” turn a battered people into a purpose driven nation?
FOX News had exclusive access as Warren set out to slay what he calls the global giants of disease, poverty, illiteracy and spiritual emptiness in a place where he’d easily find them: Rwanda.

I guess this is good advice for me...

  • Susie & Vicki:
They (Candace & Cameron) can't say it, though...so you'll have to call or something...

Just so you know, I totally get it! But that's all I can say...

By Blogger Vicki, at Mon Aug 21, 09:10:00 AM

  • Never mind, I am deleting the whole post! :) You have approximately 4 hours to make comments and then its gone! :)

  • Susie, you're great! You crack me up! And I miss seeing and hearing from you face to face.

  • "i am lost...don't know if i want to be found"

    Therein lies the problem.

By Blogger Brian, at Mon Aug 21, 10:04:00 AM

  • Okay, I'll let it go...but just this once!

By Blogger Laurence, at Mon Aug 21, 01:46:00 PM

  • Crystal,

First, don't be sad. We're just talking, unfortunately in a medium that can be SO misinterpreted. While it's beautiful to be able to write and share here, emotions are left to the reader, and that can create problems based on each reader's context.

Second, your comment about being lost and not sure you want to be found is unfortunately the state of SO many these days. I wasn't trying to attack you. I was just pointing out your statement, that, when taken in the bigger "church" context, is a major problem.

I don't want to go into it too much because then Laurence and I will end up hijacking yet another post. please just know that I am not attacking you personally. And I have much love for you and your family.

There are just some things that can't go left unaddressed.

that's kind of all this post has stirred up...

Wasn't it going to be deleted?

    :^)

By Blogger Brian, at Mon Aug 21, 07:36:00 PM

  • Please elaborate, Brian. I know where your heart is on this issue already. I won't respond. I think Crystal should know what the rest of us already do. This post is yours.

By Blogger Laurence, at Mon Aug 21, 09:37:00 PM

  • Thanks for the green light, Laurence. I appreciate it.

Crystal, I don't have a ton else to say. I'm sorry you took this personally, and it's my fault for poor communication. Please accept my apologies. I have NOTHING against you.

Your statement sums up one of the MAJOR problems with church today and throughout the ages. It is set up so only those who have a title or a seminary degree are considered the authority on who God is and what He wants. It becomes natural for the remaining people, the 'congregation', to follow whatever the authority says like good little sheep, instead of learning how to take responsibility for their own growth in their personal relationship with God and then learning how to join with other Jesus-followers who are doing the same to become what is truly the definition of "the church".

Does this make sense? When you said you were lost and not sure if you wanted to be found, it was a statement that summed up so much about the typical attitude of the typical church member that is being perpetuated by the leaders of the church. This is what I preached on and confessed my own sordid part in, then was fired 2 days later.

The plot would really make a good movie or novel, I think. But God would just get another black eye by the people who claim to be His.

Hope this helps you see where I'm coming from. Sorry again if I hurt you. Not my intention. Honestly.

  • You know, I really think we are getting somewhere here. In my infinite wisdom, I choose not to delete this post! (Well, actually, I wasn't gonna anyway. It was all an idle threat to get you guys going!) :>) Thank you, Candace, for getting it all started. I kinda wish it had been me. Oh wait, it WAS me... ROFLMBO (Does anyone still use this archaic email language?)

  • Responding only to Cameron: So young; so naïve; so much life yet to live. Everyone knows the Police could only be the opening act for U-2, the greatest rock band ever!

By Blogger Laurence, at Tue Aug 22, 06:52:00 AM

  • This guy comes up to me
His face red like a rose on a thorn bush
Like all the colors of a royal flush
And he's peeling off those dollar bills
    Slapping them down
    One hundred, two hundred
And I can see those fighter planes
And I can see those fighter planes
Across the mud huts where the children sleep
Through the alleys of a quiet city street
You take the staircase to the first floor
Turn the key and slowly unlock the door
As a man breathes into a saxophone
And through the walls you hear the city groan
    Outside is America
    Outside is America

By Blogger Laurence, at Tue Aug 22, 06:57:00 AM

  • Good Stuff Laurence. I can hear those fighter planes.

  • Every Little Thing She Does Is Magic versus Sunday, Bloody Sunday??? Come on! At least make it a competions!

Have you heard the news today?
I can't close my eyes and make it go away

    or

Even though my life before was tragic,
now I know my love for her goes on.

    I sleep victoriously tonight.

  • Every Breath You Take, I was hoping you wouldn't go there. After all, every guy who has ever broken up with a girl has wrote the lyrics to that song in a card to try and win her back (or, so I've been told). So, you'd think I'd crawl away beaten and forlorn.

    But not so, young grasshopper...

Let me come back with the double-whammy: Where the Streets Have No Name

    How ya like me now?!?!

By Blogger Laurence, at Fri Aug 25, 01:37:00 PM

  • I gotta side with Laurence on this one. Cameron, I love ya man, but you're fighting a losing battle...there is no way that The Police, or Sting, comes anywhere near U2. Steve

By Blogger Vicki, at Fri Aug 25, 02:57:00 PM

  • Oh, I see how it goes. When you're knocked down, call in another band for back-up. Okay, I'm prepared for that one too.

Does your computer run on AC or DC? Or, how 'bout a little AC/DC?

Ooohhh, I see you trembling 'cause I'm Back in Black!!

  • VICTORY!!!!!!!
